George's musical training began with piano at age 6, and he continued to take piano lessons through his second year of college. After starting clarinet in the fourth grade, George was unfortunate enough to be chosen by his high school band director to learn a dreaded double reed--the oboe. Quickly embracing this instrument, however, George went on to play principal oboe in every musical group at the University of Dayton; in one semester, this included fourteen groups at the same time. Oddly, this included almost no orchestral experience, but rather lots of wind ensembles, chamber music, etc.

Shortly after entering graduate school, George stopped playing the oboe, and he didn't take it up again until seven years later. (Getting a Ph.D. in chemistry took lots of his time, apparently.) This re-awaking was inspired by none other than the existence of the Hewlett Packard Symphony Orchestra. George now performs regularly with the Redwood Symphony, and several other musical groups in the area.

George has studied conducting with Joyce Johnson-Hamilton of the Stanford University Music Department and with Maestro Eric Kujawsky. In 2006 George was named Assistant Conductor of Nova Vista Symphony.
